Mr Mohd Firuz started Aliff Nasi Lemak over two decades ago because nasi lemak is actually his favourite food. He enjoys the dish so much that he has made the effort to go around the Malayan peninsula to try variations of it. He insists on creating nasi lemak using only natural ingredients and only uses freshly squeezed coconut juice instead of processed coconut milk. He also uses basmati rice for the nasi lemak which is not very common in Singapore as basmati rice tends to be more expensive than Jasmine rice.

For just $3.50, you get a filling plate of nasi lemak with rice, a crispy piece of fried fish, ikan bilis (smaller fried fish), fried chicken and a dollop of sambal so you’re truly getting plenty of bang for your buck. The rice was fluffy and well separated, pairing well with the sweet yet spicy sambal chilli which packs quite a punch. The chicken was crispy and I appreciate how it was cut up so it’s easier to eat. The only thing on the plate I didn’t really like was the fish because it was quite bony but considering how affordable the dish was, the fish was honestly just a bonus. Definitely one of my top few favourite nasi lemaks in Singapore!
