Very few places in Singapore sell oyster cakes but Fu Zhou Poh Hwa Oyster Cake is one of them.

Shaped like a UFO, this traditional snack is usually made from oysters, flour, Chinese parsley and peanuts that are fried to a crisp.

This store is owned by Mr Tan, who set up the business to commemorate his wife Jenny's grandmother. Jenny herself grew up helping her grandmother sell oyster cakes along Ophir Road in the 1950s. Unfortunately, in 1970, they stopped selling these when her grandmother's home was destroyed by a fire.

Currently, Mr Tan and Jenny run the stall together and the sad thing is that their children currently do not have any intention to take over the business, which means that this may be another oyster cake business may be another one that bites the dust.

Oyster Cake

It's hard to find a place that sells oyster cakes in Singapore so I was glad to discover Fu Zhou Poh Hwa Oyster Cake at Berseh Food Centre.

The oyster cakes here are extremely affordable too and you get it with other ingredients like prawns too.

I ordered the original one with oysters. Biting into it was pure bliss, especially when it was hot. The crisp oyster cake breaks apart in your mouth, revealing the soft fluffiness of the inside of the pancake and the soft, briny oysters.

It's honestly hard to stop at one — do try this snack before it goes extinct!
