Quan Xiang Fish Porridge has been at the Bukit Timah Market and Food Centre since 1966, which means that they have been in the market for almost 60 years! You can bet that a stall that has been in the hawker scene for so long has plenty of skills under their belt and you can trust that their food is good. The front of the stall also has pictures of the stall owners with famous local actors who have enjoyed their fish soup. The name Quan Xiang actually translates to flatfish and this refers to the thinly sliced Batang fish in the soup.
I really love a solid bowl of fish soup and this is a good one to have if you’re in the area. The soup is very light so it is great if you’re looking for something not too heavy on the stomach and the palate, this is a good option to go for. I also like how the soup has a slight sweetness to it which comes from the fish. The fish itself is very fresh and did not have a super fishy smell which I appreciate. It was also really tender and fleshy. I recommend pairing this with rice but they also have noodle options if you prefer that!
