There are two stalls at Chomp Chomp hawker centre that are always in a heated competition with each other — Chia Keng Hokkien Mee and Ah Hock. While Ah Hock has a Michelin Plate award, the Hokkien noodles at Chia Keng is a close contender and is equally popular with the dinner and supper crowds. During peak period especially, Chia Keng Hokkien Mee has long, snaking queues and you may even have to wait up till 45 minutes for your food! If you like wet versions of Hokkien mee, Chia Keng’s rendition will be up your alley.
The prawn stock used to cook Chia Keng’s famous Hokkien mee is packed with plenty of umami which translates to a delicious gravy for the dish. You can really taste the prawns in it! Each serving comes with a generous amount of prawns, pork belly slices and crispy pork lard (My favourite!). It also has a very distinct wok hei taste which can sometimes make or break a plate of Hokkien mee. They sell plates of small, medium and large Hokkien mee for very affordable prices and you can get a larger plate to share as a centerpiece!
