Chee Cheong Fun is usually eaten as a snack or an after-meal munch, made mainly from rice flour. The owner Eddy Tan has been making Chee Cheong fun for 10 years now, learning the craft from his father who owned a chwee kueh hawker stall prior to this. They seem to have perfect the art of making consistent twisty hot rice noodle rolls, for loyal customers and new patrons are willing to wait for 20minutes to an hour to secure a plate of their favourite bites.

There are four types of fillings available - plain, prawn, char siew and scallops. Char Siew seems to be the popular one, having spotted sheets after sheets sheets being cut and chopped. Each order is made on the spot - steamed and expertly cut into bite-sized pieces - then served with sambal chilli and doused with their homemade light sauce with a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

I ordered the char siew and plain Chee Cheong Fun as I wanted to make my 20-minute wait worthy. Though priced at a higher price point, the amount served is more than what you’ll typically get from other stalls.

One thing I loved about this warm snack is that the soft and chewy rice rolls that - despite being folded in layers, doesn’t feel too chunky on the palate. The fillings are scatted evenly and generously that you’ll definitely be able to taste the sweetness of the char siew or prawns in each bite. The homemade sauce brings a little saltiness, but with the combination of the sambal chilli, this Chee Cheong Fun is worth every penny of it.
