The stall is family-run and the family members take turns to help take care of it. It is mainly the children running the stall these days. Everything is prepared in house, including the deep frying of the chicken. The stall has been at Changi Village market for decades and they’ve consistently been selling the same dishes using the family recipe. They also have chosen to specialise in only 2 dishes, namely ayam penyet and ikan penyet. While they don't have the most extensive menu, their only 2 dishes have been tweaked to taste as good as it is.

Signature

Nasi Ayam Penyet, Nasi Ikan Penyet

For just $4, you get a sizeable piece of ayam penyet (fried smashed chicken), a generous mound of rice, a bowl of soup and multiple sauces. The chicken had a crisp skin that was not too overly greasy and underneath that was juicy chicken meat that was not too overcooked and dry. The rice isn’t your usual white rice and it tasted like it had been cooked with onions as it was very fragrant. What really brought out the flavours of the dish were the accompanying sauces. The dark sauce added a sweet component to the savoury dish and the chilli added a nice heated element. While it isn’t the best ayam penyet in Singapore, it was a satisfying, nostalgic one that will definitely hit home.
