Ghim Moh Chwee Kueh has been in the local hawker scene for years since 1959. It is currently run by a man called Mr Lee who took over the stall from his parents and had started helping his mother and brother make the dish since he was 8. They even used to sell their chwee kueh from a push cart — look how far they have come! Now they even have their own physical stall. Apparently, he spends 16 hours a day making chwee kueh, which is quite a feat, especially since he does it the old-fashioned way like his mother so that the flavours and textures of the dish remain authentic and quality is ensured.

I got myself four pieces of chwee kueh for just $2, which means that each mound of chwee kueh costs just 50 cents. For the uninitiated, chwee kueh is a steamed rice cake topped with chye poh, which essentially is radish bits. Ghim Moh Chwee Kueh apparently cooks their chye poh with garlic and pork lard which makes it even more fragrant than most places. I really liked the texture of the rice cakes which was soft and melt-in-your-mouth and it had a nice contrast with the crunchy chye poh. I also really liked the chilli sauce which is not too overly spicy so it is suitable for people with low spice tolerance like me.
