This very famous stall is run by an elderly couple and the secret Hokkien mee recipe they use is over 60 years old! They close pretty early at around 5pm, right before dinner time (what a shame!) so do come down earlier in the day if you want to try their food. Be warned: the queues for this stall are very long and you can expect at least a 20 minute wait time, Any shorter and you can consider yourself very lucky! The long wait time is fair since all the Hokkien mee is cooked on the spot upon order. It is unsurprising that the stall with such a rich history has won countless awards and been mentioned in a number of famous food blogs.

I first heard of this stall on an episode of NOC Foodking many years back and I remember that it received a three-star rating upon three. Up till today, one of the judges who tried the food still says that this is one of his favorite Hokkien mee stalls in Singapore and there are very few stalls that can beat it. He also recommends opting for takeaway to allow the noodles to soak in all the goodness but I really wanted to try it as it is on the spot. There was a long queue when I reached and I was considered very early — after I joined the queue, even more people pile up behind me! It was around a 15-minute wait for my food. They only have $5 options so I got that. The noodles had a very intense, smokey wok hei taste which I really loved and despite being dry-style, the umami from the prawn stock used was very prominent. I can understand why this place is so popular and I definitely will be back!
