Located at Haig Road Market and Food Centre, the stall is helmed by one man, who isn’t the friendliest uncle. But he sure knows how to make an above-than-average plate of chicken rice. Like most chicken rice stalls, there are other add-on options like braised egg and roasted meat.

Huat means ‘to prosper’ and one can only guess that the owners must have wanted the stall to prosper with customers. While it isn’t one of the first few names you’d think about when you’re craving for a plate of chicken rice, this stall serves your needs. The hawker itself isn’t the cleanest place, but it sure houses a lot of good stalls for any hungry being looking for an affordable meal.

I ordered a plate of white chicken rice but opted for chicken thigh instead. I was served a rather good portion of meat with rice for one person. The uncle wasn’t very friendly like you’d expect, but I didn’t mind that at all - in fact I didn’t think he needed to be sociable as long as he did his job - making a plate of decent chicken rice.

I enjoyed my white chicken which was tender and chewy. I also like that the rice was fragrant and grainy, and not too oily. Paired with the garlic chilli, I thought it served its purpose as a plate of decent and tasty chicken rice. I would have liked a little more vegetables on the side, but I guess it’s a decent amount for the price I paid for.
