Located at Kovan Hougang Food Centre, it is not hard to spot this hawker stall despite the variety of stalls housed there. Often spotted with a long queue, A1 Kway Chap not only sells the crowd-favourite braised dishes, it also serves duck meat, which are also rather affordable.

There are various options to choose from - from set meals to ala carte, you can also opt to top up your favourite ingredient to the mix. The stall owners are very friendly in taking the order, and sometimes you may spot the young adult son helping out at the stall. It is not easy to prepare the offals and innards, especially the cleaning part of it, but it is safe to say this stall has perfect the way of handling it, as well as getting the right balance of the sweet and saltiness of the Kway Chap broth.

As someone who loves her Kway Chap, I was willing to wait for 15 minutes for my turn. With about 4-5 people in front of me, I thought the food was worth the wait. The draw of this stall has definitely got to be the Kway Chap, with many asking for the add-on of duck meat. Each set comes with the usual pig intestines, tau pok, tofu, meat and egg. The innards were clean and intestines were springy - cooked to my preference. The broad flat rice noodles was smooth, warm and silky, soaked in the braised broth that isn’t too heavy on the palate.

Portion-wise, it was enough for one person and would opt for an add-on in the future. The homemade chilli sauce paired really well with the food - spicy with a tad of sourness that gave a really satisfying meal.
