It is not an easy find when you are able to spot a shop or hawker stall that has such a long history like Chai Kee Prawn Noodles. Tucked in one corner towards the end of the food centre, the stall is filled with people and a long queue that stretches round the area. Be prepared to queue for more than 30 minutes for your turn to order - even if it’s early in the morning. This stall also has a lot of regular customers who can be seen friendly with the stall owner.

I’d definitely recommend the dried prawn noodles and get the chilli and fried pork lard for it is heavenly. Mend by the daughter-in-law, she handles the ordering and cooking of the various prawn noodle dishes. There are various options for the prawn noodles such as the normal ($5), Pork Rib Noodles with Prawns ($6) and Pig’s Intestines Noodles with Prawn ($7). Also options for small and big bowls.

After queuing for a good 40 minutes, I regretted just getting the normal small bowl of prawn noodles. IT came with sliced de-shelled prawns, slices of pork, sprinkled with pork lard and deep fried spring onions. Alternatively, you can also opt for add-ons like intensities, abalones, prawns, etc.

I really loved the prawn noodles. Not just that the noodles were cooked perfectly - springy and coated well with sauce, I really enjoyed the taste of the dark sauce mixed with chilli and their own special spices added. The soup that was served separately was definitely tasty, sweet and full of umami flavour. I drank it in one gulp and would ask for a 2nd helping if I could.

If you don’t mind the wait, then I’ll say queue and ask for a big bowl!
