Opened in 1999, Fatt Soon Kueh specializes in selling traditional Teochew Kueh, with a total of 3 outlets in Singapore. This branch is located at People's Park Food Centre, Chinatown. The stall occupies two connected stalls to have an open kitchen, so feel free to enter the store and watch the in-house kueh-steaming live.
You can order three types of kueh; Rice Kueh, Ku Chai Kueh and Soon Kueh. Rice Kueh comes in two colours, white and pink, with seasoned glutinous rice and peanut filling. Ku Chai Kueh has Chinese leek and garlic filling. Soon Kueh has bengkuang, carrot, black fungus, hae bee (dried shrimp), etc. The translucent skin is made with rice-tapioca flour, making it chewy. Enjoy the kueh with the dark soya sauce and the very spicy chilli sauce on the side.
Signature
I decided to make full use of this opportunity to try all three types of kueh. Rice Kueh has a firmer skin compared to the other two, hence it held the filling together better. The peanut filling gave it a nutty flavour, enhancing the taste of the glutinous rice. Absolutely filling with the generous portion of glutinous rice. Ku Chai Kueh was packed with Chinese leek! Strong garlic taste too ♪ I can tell the Soon Kueh filling was left to simmer, which gave it a rich taste! The bengkuang also made it crunchy. The skin of the Ku Chai Kueh and the Soon Kueh was soft and chewy!
Each kueh had a distinct taste, making it delicious on its own, but I still recommend dipping the kueh into the dark soya sauce and the chilli sauce for additional flavour♪
Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or as a tea-time snack.
