Lao Ban Soya Beancurd pride themselves in their beancurd — also known as tau hway — that is freshly made on site. The lao bans (Chinese for bosses) of this stall are Mr Li Hui Shing and Mdm Hui Ywai Kwai and they opened their very first stall at Old Airport Food Centre in 2009.

They have since branched out to have multiple stores scattered across Singapore. Their children have also opened their own stalls selling similar beancurd and in 2019, the eldest son even got into a lawsuit with his parents over the brand’s name as the name of his stall (Xiao Ban) sounded very similar to Lao Ban.

Do note that both the stores are not affiliated with one another, so do make sure that you’re visiting the right store if you attempt to visit them!

I love soya beancurd and I’ve been eating Lao Ban’s one for years. What makes them stand out from their competitors is the texture of their beancurd.

It’s incredibly smooth and silky with a very slight grainy texture, if that makes sense. It’s also not heavily doused in syrup like some beancurd places do. Instead, it has a natural sweetness, making it good for people who hate overly-sweet desserts. They sell the beancurd in round circular containers and you can easily spot it by its iconic logo featuring a little old man and lady, which I assume is the husband and wife duo.

If you haven’t tried their beancurd, you’re truly missing out!
