For people who love steamed rice rolls, aka chee cheong fun, Freshly Made Chee Cheong Fun at Old Airport Road is a good place to consider checking out. The stall is around 20 years old and is currently run by a pair of sisters that took over the stall from their mother, who first started the business in Lorong Ah Soo. She had actually learnt how to make authentic chee cheong fun while working for a Hong Kong chef in a restaurant, so this is some pretty legit stuff! The sisters themselves learnt how to do so when they were teenagers, which is over 20 years of experience. When the shop first started out, it only had three types of fillings but now, they’ve progressed on to have ten different kinds to choose from, leaving diners spoilt for choice. Apart from rice rolls, they also have other dishes on their menu such as a variety of congee, dumplings and vegetables.

After ordering my food, I watched the sisters prepare my chee cheong fun before my very eyes. I’ve never witnessed anyone making chee cheong fun before so this was definitely an interesting experience! The food was served to me piping hot as they really prepare everything upon order for you, which is something I really appreciated. I got myself one BBQ Pork roll and one Prawn roll, and each serving cost $2.50, an increase from their old price of $2. The rice rolls had a nice chewiness to it without it being too rubbery. I really enjoyed the prawn rice rolls which contained small bits of crunchy prawns that gave the chee cheong fun a nice sweetness. The BBQ pork ones were great too and had bits of sweet, charred BBQ pork that was quite tender. Definitely can foresee myself coming here in the future!
