Konak Western Delights has been at Telok Blangah Market & Food Centre for a few years.

The business is founded and helmed by Nath, a self-taught chef with over a decade of cooking experience. She actually picked up her skills through books and on-the-job training!

The menu has all the usual western hawker stall staples like Chicken Chop, Chicken Cutlet, Fish and Chips, Lamb Chop and Spaghetti. There is also an entire spring chicken. Good for people looking for old-school-style Western food.

Everytime I see a hawker stall selling steak or lamb, I usually am skeptical because how well can you cook such an expensive piece of protein in a hawker setting? But many hawkers have proved me wrong over the years so I was keen to see if Nath could do the same.

When I reached the hawker stall on a weekday afternoon, It was packed thanks to the lunch crowd. I had to wait around 10 minutes for my food.

I ordered one serving of steak and one lamn chop.

The steak was surprisingly tender and easy to cut through with the knife. It was also seared well and paired well with the gravy.

On the other hand, the lamb was not overwhelmingly gamey and similar to the steak, was tender and easy to cut. My only gripe was that the portion size was a little small but all things considered, it was still a well-cooked piece of protein.
