Established in 1962, Tiong Bahru Fishball was founded by Mr Loh, a staunch Teochew who insists that making the best fish balls require sheer dedication and commitment. Hence, he ensures that his fishballs are made with the freshest Ikan Parang, which is also known as Wolf Herring fish or Sai Tor Her. The food here are also crafted with well-guarded traditional family recipes so that the taste is unique to them.

They also take pride in adding zero flour to the food so that you are getting 100% fish meat in every fish cake and fish ball. Apart from their fish-related menu items, they also sell otah, fried beancurd and 4 colour rolls so that you have more variety to choose from. You’ll definitely be spoilt for choice here!

I came in the late afternoon just as the stall was about to close and though most of the food was already sold out, I still had a hard time choosing what I wanted from the remaining selection. In the end, I settled for a good mixture of fishcakes cut in different shapes and sizes. All these came paired with a small bowl filled with a spicy chilli sauce for that extra kick.

As promised, the fishballs here were delicious and you can really tell that they use 100% fish meat in each and every variant. If you plan on visiting, I suggest coming a little before the lunch crowd so that you’ll have more options to choose from.
