While there are multiple Granny Pancake outlets across Singapore, each stall is run slightly differently due to various owners using the Granny Pancake name. The flour used to make the pancake remains the same but the type of ingredients used in the pancakes are different. For instance, the Tiong Bahru outlet is run by Miss Alice Ong and it has been in operation since 2018. She decided to open a Granny’s Pancake franchise due to her health, and she wanted to work a job that gave her more free time to rest and get treatment. She learnt the trade from the owner of the Granny’s Pancake Hong Lim outlet in one week before setting up her own shop.

I love traditional pancakes and am glad to see that stalls like Granny’s Pancakes are keeping the trade alive. Each pancake was just $1 and I got myself the peanut filling one. As Alice herself is diabetic, she uses less sugar in all her fillings. To be honest, I was expecting the pancakes to taste quite bland but surprisingly, it was quite flavourful. The peanuts had a strong, nutty taste and were encased between a soft, fluffy and slightly moist pancake. The combination of the grainy nuts and the soft pancake was addictive and the pancakes tasted like nostalgia. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try traditional snacks in Singapore!
