These days, finding a traditional, old-school dessert stall can be quite a difficult task, unless you head to hawker stalls like this one. The Dessert House sells traditional desserts like Cendol, Ice Kachang, Grass Jelly, etc. These local, Asian desserts have always been quite the staple of Singaporeans and residents where these desserts are great after a meal or as a snack. Often, these desserts are also great for sharing with family and friends.

The variety of offerings offered by The Dessert House ranges from the staples like Cendol and fan-favourite such as Ice Kachang and Logan Jelly. Though this stall is parked towards the end of the hawker area, there is a steady stream of people queuing to get their dessert fix. With stalls like The Dessert House, it is also easy to get a customised order to your liking by adding ingredients that you fancy as compared to the fixed menu.

Singapore is known as the country with humid and hot weather, so getting a cold dessert after a meal is quite the normal practice, especially when one that is not only cold and sweet, it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. For me, ordering the Cendol is one that should be shared and enjoyed by more than just myself. For a $2 price tag, it’s definitely worth it. While I wouldn’t say it is the best Cendol I’ve ever tasted, but I do appreciate the no-frills kind of desserts. A simple dessert that I felt I was supporting the senior couple and their business.

In terms of taste, the bowl of Cendol had the sweet syrup taste, with a great variety of texture from the red bean to the jelly and chewy pandan and red ruby jelly. Drizzled with coconut milk, this is a comfort dessert, great for the sunny Singapore.
