Fang Yuan Satay is helmed by a third-generation hawker who took over the business from his father and grandfather. The stall is tucked away in the heartlands at Toa Payoh and is one of the most popular stalls at Toa Payoh Lorong 5 Food Centre. The Chinese-style satay is all handmade using a recipe that has been passed down from the owner’s grandfather and there are both pork and chicken options available. The satay is all also grilled upon order, ensuring that you get only the freshest sticks of satay around. Good for sharing with a large group of friends or your family!
I came down on a weekday evening when the hawker centre was relatively quiet. Upon ordering my food, the uncle pulled out the uncooked satay and then began grilling it on the spot. I waited for about 15 minutes before it was ready and I got to enjoy it piping hot! I got both the chicken and pork satay and all of the meat was marinated well and grilled to perfection. Each stick also had a beautiful char, so you get a little bit of those sweet dark bits with every mouthful. Dip it in the provided peanut sauce for even more flavour! You can also order a rice cake, which I did, for some carbs to your meal.
