This bakery has a long history in Japan, with its first store opened in Tokyo in 1933. The Singapore store is the first international store after gaining popularity in Japan. Asanoya Boulangerie is located near Bras Basah MRT Station, about 10 minutes from the circle line station.

This bakery is famous for its rustic Japanese-style bread (traditional oven-baked) and it churns out fresh bread and pastries at different time belts, offering a range of various options for diners. There are even drinks such as coffee and beer! To pair with your bread.

The area is spacious, bright and quiet – great for a tea break or even working there.

I felt like I have stepped into a gem of a place when I was at Asanoya Bakery. Being a bread lover already makes it much easier to fall in love with this place, but what sealed the deal for me was that the area was bright, quiet and spacious. Plus, the coffee is great, so there’s nothing much to complain about.

Of course, price wise, it is leaning towards the more expensive price – whether is it for the bread or the drinks options. I was spoilt for choice when it came to choosing the bread, but ultimately went for some cute-looking options and flavours that I know I’d like.

However, one thing that bugged me when I was there is the lack of staff. While I do know that patrons should clear their plates and food after they are done, many of the tables were left with past patrons food, and getting attention from a staff was rather difficult. Other than that, if you love bread, pastries and generally love a good hideout, this is one to check out.
