The family-run business has been around since 1952.

For the uninitiated, there are two stalls at Hong Lim Food Centre that have similar names. One is Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff and the other is Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff Original. Both used to operate under the same name until one of the brothers, Peter, added the word "original" to the name due to trademark issues.

The business started back decades ago by Ng Yong Cheong. In 2016, his Peter, who is Yong Cheong's oldest son, took over the reins. Peter's younger brother, Ray, later opened another curry puff stall with the same name, just a unit away from the stall.

Over the past few years, there has been tension between the brothers and the two stalls, especially after Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff Original won the Michelin Guide recommendation back in 2017.

When I visited the stall on a weekday afternoon, there was still a snaking long queue.

But this moved along fast and I managed to get my curry puffs quickly. I snagged an otah and curry chicken.

It is my first time trying an otah puff so I didn't know what to expect, but this turned out to be surprisingly good! The otah was spicy, sweet and savoury all at once and the texture went surprisingly well with the flakiness of the pastry skin.

On the other hand, the chicken curry is a classic and I wasn't surprised to find that it tasted good. Spice level isn't too high so people like me with low spice tolerance can enjoy it pain-free.
