Nan Xiang Chicken Rice was founded in December 1986 and the founder, Nancy Lim, set up the original stall at Whampoa Market together with her husband and in May 2007, they opened their first restaurant at Square 2 Shopping Mall and their original stall at Whampoa remains. They specialise in, as their name says, chicken rice, and other things like vegetables. They have even been featured in popular television shows like “Only The Best”, a guide by food blogger ieatishootipost for local hawker fare.

I ordered myself a chicken rice set which comes with the chicken and rice separated as well as a bowl of soup on the side. In addition, there were condiments to help enhance the flavours of your food such as sweet sauce, chilli and ginger. The rice was fragrant with subtle hints of ginger and they gave quite a generous portion of it that I couldn’t finish it all! The chicken was also tender and silky, pairing well with the rice. Overall, it was a very nostalgic plate of chicken rice that reminded me of my childhood.
