This stall is famous for its simple yet delicious bowls of prawn noodles. The people behind 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles have humbly sold their food for years and it is a family business that they've kept alive throughout the generations. Everything is cooked and prepared freshly in-house and while you queue for your food, you can watch the family do their designated roles. The queues here are perpetually long; you can expect a good 10-minute to 30-minute wait, especially during lunch period. Do come early because the stall closes when they sell out for the day!
545 Whampoa Prawn Noodle specialises in nostalgic bowls of prawn noodles that are served dry or in a soup. You can choose to opt for yellow noodles, bee hoon or a combination of both. The soup prawn noodles feature a sweet, umami-packed broth that has a very strong prawn flavour and this is greedily soaked up by the noodles. Each bowl of prawn noodles also come laden with an incredibly generous amount of ingredients such as prawn slices, pork, bean sprouts and fried shallots. I also appreciate how the prawns have been deshelled and sliced so that you can skip the hassle of having to do so yourself. The prawns aren't the most massive ones I've had in a bowl of prawn noodles, but it is substantial and very fresh! Overall, a very well executed and nostalgic dish. My only gripe would be how long the queues are but that just proves how good the food here is.
