Yu Chu La Mian Xiao Long Bao is a stall at Whampoa that sells shockingly affordable and delicious xiao long bao. Since 2012, The stall was opened and run by a man who used to work in large restaurants in Singapore. He didn't believe that food like dumplings and noodles should be so expensive like how it is charged in restaurants, so he wanted to start his own business where he could sell the same things for more pocket-friendly prices.

Signature

Xiao Long Bao

Xiao long bao in Singapore tends to be pretty expensive so coming across variations that cost less than S$7 per basket is considered a steal. Each serving at Yu Chu La Mian Xiao Long Bao comes with 5 pieces of sizable dumplings that are presented to you fresh and piping hot. The dumpling skin is a little thicker than your usual xiao long bao skin, but at the same time, it was not too doughy. I found that I actually preferred it this way as it gave the entire xiao long bao a chewier texture as well as more bite. The meat filling was very generous and juicy and when you break into the dumpling, a substantial amount of soup flows out. It is of restaurant quality and if you had served these to me and not have told me that they were made by a hawker, I honestly would not have been able to tell the difference!
