This food centre is sort of ‘hidden’ in the mall, thought like most malls in Singapore, you may find the food court at the top floor. But for Beauty World Food Centre, there is an ‘outdoor’ area which is where this food court is. So don’t be fooled if you think it’s an air-conditioned place. The area is a litter dirtier and nosier than other food centres, and it can get quite stuffy at points too.
However, there are many great stalls that are housed there, one of it is the Penang Home Made Beef Ball, just beside the Top 1 Home Made Noodle – another famous stall. As the name suggest, it is no wonder that the owner is from Penang, and he hopes to bring the Penange style Beef soup and Beef balls to Singapore. His family members are said to be owners of the famous Restoran Kham Khee chain in Malaysia as well.
There are various options to choose from – from Beef Ball soup to Braised Brisket Noodles, this stall also allows cashless options, as compared to the other stalls. An ingredient that goes really well with this dish is definitely chilli – a mix of spice and sour.
From the exterior, the Penang Home Made Beef Ball stall looks old and not the best appealing stall among the rest, however the stall owner is rather friendly, recommending his customers on what to get. Each bowl is made to order and whether is it soup or brisket noodles, it takes about 5 minutes to get each bowl done.
The stall owner was very nice – perhaps because I was the only customer there, he started chatting with me and asked some questions while he cooked the ingredients for my beef ball soup with noodles.
The Beef Balls noodles soup had beef balls, beef slices, and beef tendons. I thought right off the bat, there is a rather rich taste to the soup, but also a strong smell to the soup. Not that it was bad or anything, I do see that it can get too much both in taste and smell for one. Beef balls were chewy and tasty, so do the beef slices but it wasn’t nothing too extraordinary for that matter.
It was a decent bowl of beef noodles soup, along with the spicy chilli, but will probably try other stalls when I’m there the next time around.
