Ah Chew desserts first opened in September 2003 by a man named Ah Chew in a half-shop space at Liang Seah Street and in 2004 they slowly expanded to occupy the whole shop space. They continued to grow over the years and finally opened a second outlet in 2014 at Novena. With years of expanding and improvement of recipes, they now have a menu with over 50 traditional and modern desserts that are well loved by both old and new customers which include popular offerings like Mango Sago, Durian Sago and Black Sesame Paste.

For people who want to try traditional desserts, Ah Chew Dessert is a good place to go to get a taste of some authentic ones. I got their Fresh Milk Steamed Egg for $3.50 which sounds like the Japanese dish chawanmushi but is actually a Chinese dessert. The dessert was very smooth and creamy with a slightly sweet taste which was just nice for me. Simple but good! I also tried the Durian Pomelo Mango Sago for $5.80. This is a great dessert for durian and mango lovers like me! The combination sounds a little odd but it does go very well together. The creaminess and pungent flavours of the durian contrasted yet went very well with the sweetness of the mango. I also liked the addition of the pomelo which added a nice pop of citrus with every bite.
