Ya Kun started out as a humble coffee stall by Loi Ah Koon, who came from China to Singapore to start a new life.

This was done in partnership with with two other Chinese immigrants and they set up shop at Tekok Ayer Basin. However, these partners eventually left and Ah Koon was left to his own devices. But he succeeded and eventually was joined by his wife.

After over 15 years at Telok Ayer Basin, he relocated across the street to Lau Pat Sat. In 1984, it moved back to Telok Ayer Transit Food Market while Lau Pa Sat was revamped. The original stall settled at Far East Square and Ah Koon's children have taken over the reins to expand the business across Singapore.

Now, Ya Kun Toast can be found almost everywhere on our sunny little island!

To get a true taste of Singapore's local breakfast food, a meal at Ya Kun Toast is a must.

Get the sets which come with your choice of tea or coffee, soft-boiled eggs and your choice of toast.

Some may bd squeamish about eating such mushy eggs but these are excellent. Garnish it with white pepper and soya sauce for a heavenly pick-me-up in the morning. You can also dunk your crispy toast in it, true blue Singaporean style.

Despite becoming a chain, Ya Kun Toast is crowded no matter where you go, even when it isn't breakfast time! So, do be prepared to wait for your food. But, it's worth it!
