Odeon beef noodles is a nostalgic dish that was created by Singaporeans decades ago.
The stall used to be located at the old Odeon Theatre at North Bridge Road, which is how the Hainanese dish got its name.
Now, second-generation hawkers are selling the cultural dish so that it does not get lost in history.
The dish is well-loved for its rich herbal beef broth that is four to five hours for a robust taste.
One of the more notable stalls that sells these is Hwa Heng Beef Noodle at Bendemeer Food Centre, but there's also one at Marina Bay Sands that does so. This is served in either dry or soup-style.
Oden beef noodles are one of my favourite styles of beef noodles so I was thrilled to find this at Marina Bay Sands' food court!
When I visited the stall for dinner on a weekend night, there was no queue and I managed to get my food fast. I ordered the dry beef brisket noodles and opted for kway teow for my noodles.
The chewy rice noodles came drenched in a thick, viscous gravy made from beef stock. This was topped with generous cubes of beef brisket. What I also love was how a bowl of the robust beef soup was provided on the side, even though I didn't order the soup rendition!
I love the textures in a good bowl of odeon beef noodles and the ones from this stall delivered. The gloopy, gooey gravy went well with the thick kway teow and I slurped up every drop. The bean sprouts in the dish also added a nice crunch in every bite. The beef was also more tender than I had anticipated and melted away in my mouth.
