Established in 1934, Chin Chin Eating House specialises in authentic Hainanese food. They are located conveniently at Purvis Street and the location is very central and convenient. The chicken here is prepared the traditional Hainanese way, where the entire chicken is poached at sub-boiling temperatures. To make the rice, the stock from the chicken, ginger, garlic and pandan leaves is used to cook the rice, creating a fragrant serving of rice to go with the poached chicken. Apart from chicken rice, they also have an extensive range of Hainanese dishes to choose from so it's good for large gatherings.
When dining here, it is a must to get their chicken rice. I got the roasted version which came with a generous amount of chicken drizzled in a light soya sauce. I was initially expecting the chicken to be dry based on how it looked. Surprisingly, it was extremely tender, which I expect must be thanks to the poaching. The rice was also very fragrant and well separated, complimenting the chicken. They have plenty of condiments on the side like chilli and soya sauce for people who want to elevate their meal but I feel like the chicken rice was fine without it.
