Ah Chiang Porridge was founded in 1968 and they set up the original shop at Tiong Poh Road in Tiong Bahru. It has since become a chain with 3 stalls across Singapore such as Toa Payoh so that more people can enjoy their food. In order to maintain the quality of their food, they are very particular about the freshness of the ingredients they bring in, so ingredients like fish come directly from the fishing port and the pork comes from the nearby Tiong Bahru Market. They continue to use the original recipe that they first started off with in 1968 and the porridge is cooked over a charcoal fire which gives it a more special, prominent flavour. Aside from porridge, they also sell plenty of other dishes such as Fried Beancurd and Ginger Chicken.

I got myself a bowl of Fish Porridge and Century Egg Sliced Pork Porridge with a side of Fried Beancurd. The fish porridge was filled with tender slices of fresh fish which were springy and well cooked. It also had a creamy, silky porridge base that was light but flavourful. If you find it too light, you can also add some of the provided soya sauce and spring onions. The Century Egg Sliced Pork Porridge was packed with tender pieces of pork and chewy pieces of century egg. I also really enjoyed the Fried Beancurd which comes with fried beancurd cubes that are paired with a generous amount of Thai chilli sauce. The beancurd cubes were crisp and the inside was soft, making it a nice side to enjoy with your hearty bowls of porridge.
