Located at Owen Road, which is a walking distance from Farrer Park MRT station, Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh sits in a corner of the main road, with a consistent flow of crowds coming in to enjoy a bowl of a pipping pork rib soup. Most, if not all the Bak Kut Teh are served in claypots wares with refillable soup. Most of the people here are for the steamed fish, but their claypot set meals are not to shabby for a first-timer or a stubborn eater.

Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh has a clear broth that leans slightly towards a herbal soup base, simmered with lots of herbs such as star anise and garlic for hours to bring out the flavour and aroma of the soup. The service staff are very hospitable, welcoming you as they guide you to your table. Best to enjoy this dish is during a cold and rainy day!

Signature

Pork Rib Soup

When it comes to Bak Kut Teh, there are 2 main broths to look out for - the herbal kind or the peppery taste. My personal preference would be to go for the latter because I enjoy my soup a little spicer. Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh stands somewhere along both sides, with an additional hint of sweetness. I ordered the soup, a bowl of rice and you tiao to go with it. The pork ribs are fresh and chewy, but it does take a little effort to cut through the slices.

It’s quite interesting to note that most people order the steamed fish instead of their signature dish, so the next time I am at Heng Heng Bak Kut Teh, I’ll be ordering my fish dishes instead.
