Ye Shang Hai has been around for decades and was founded by Mr Boo Kia Long in 1984.
In 2017, the stall moved for the third time to Lengkok Bahru and three years later in 2020, it moved back to Bukit Merah.
Recently, due to its lease ending, the stall moved to Kim San Leng Kopitiam in Tampines. They also are hoping to look for a new location to reopen in Bukit Merah.
The stall is known to open till the wee hours of the morning, making it the perfect spot for hungry night owls who wanted to grab some supper. As of now, the Tampines outlet does not open so late.
They have over 50 dishes on their extensive menu, but fan favorites include the claypot braised pork trotter, braised duck and otak. Prices are also kept reasonable through the years and you can easily get a feast for under $10.
I've patronised Ye Shang Hai for years as I stay at Bukit Merah. While they have moved to their new location at Tampines, which is much further for me, I am still inclined to pay them the occasional visit as their food brings back so much nostalgia for me.
Dishes I usually order include their pork belly, otak, tau kee (beancurd), braised duck and eggplant. The portion sizes here are generous and everything pairs well with the homemade rice porridge. What also baffles me is how affordable the price point is. Even after ordering so much, the food is still less than $10 per pax!
