Mention the term ‘dim sum’ to anyone and the first name that pops up in everyone’s head is Swee Choon. This beloved restaurant has been in Singapore’s F&B scene since 1962 and not once have I visited them and not seen a snaking queue. As they are open till the wee hours of 6am in the morning, it is a popular supper destination for night owls. Even then, at 3am in the morning, you can still come across a long queue of at least 15 minutes. It’s crazy! But it is also understandable thanks to their massive variety of dim sum as well as the quality of it. Even after 50 years (that is as old as Singapore!) they have consistently sold delicious dim sum. Some popular menu items include their Prawn and Banana Fritters, Xiao Long Bao, Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun and Mee Suah Kueh.

Just like everyone else in Singapore, I am a huge fan of Swee Choon’s dim sum. Everytime I come here, the menu leaves me spoilt for choice! This time around, I ordered their Truffle Xiao Long Bao, Portugese Egg Tart, Prawn & Banana Fritter, Beancurd Prawn Roll, Baked BBQ Pork Pastry, Shanghai Pork Chop La Mian in Soup and Rice Roll with Char Siew. My ultimate favourite is the Prawn & Banana Fritter. It sounds like a bizarre combination but trust me when I say that it works! I also loved their Truffle Xiao Long Bao. The truffle flavour isn’t overly strong and it also does not taste like car oil like some truffle seasonings do. Their portugese egg tarts were also surprisingly good and were very fragrant with a nicely flaky, baked exterior.
