The owner of Five Star Chicken Rice actually grew up surrounded by chickens and soon became a popular chicken supplier due to his expertise in the animal. He was so good at what he does that he could even tell the age, health and condition of the chicken just by looking at it! As the chicken here is kampong chicken, it is said to be less in fat and rich in flavour and the chicken here is cooked in the traditional Hainanese style and served with housemade chilli and ginger sauces for taste.

The chicken rice here is a tad bit more expensive than what you can find at other places but its reasonable because it is kampung chicken which is hard to find in Singapore. Do note that you have to order the rice and the chicken separately and if you’re eating with a big group of people, it is suggested that you can a full size chicken to share around. The chicken was tender and juicy, as expected and was coated in a light soya sauce which gave a contrasting savouriness against the sweetness of the chicken flesh. The rice was also light, fluffy and fragrant. The restaurant also has other dishes that you can get to pair with your chicken rice.
