Mr Ng Ah Sio’s father was one of the first few people in Singapore that started selling Teochew-style bak kut teh. Over the years, he picked up the trade while he worked with his father and on 1 December 1977, he took over the business when his father retired. He sold bak kut teh to the crowds at New World Amusement Park and eventually renamed the restaurant after himself. The restaurant expanded and grew in popularity and even celebrities and political dignitaries visited his stall. On 15 March 1988, he moved to Rangoon Road where he still is until today.

I got myself a bowl of Classic Pork Ribs Soup ($7.80) as well as a bowl of rice to pair along with it. The meat pieces were fleshy and chunky with a decent fat to meat ratio, so each one was pretty tender. The broth was cloudy and you can tell that it had been boiled for quite some time as it had a rich, peppery and robust flavour, qualities that a good, soothing bowl of bak kut teh should have. To switch things up, dip it in the provided dark sauce for a spicy and sweet touch. If you want to get a taste of authentic bak kut teh, this is a good place to do so at.
