Situated at Rangoon Road (yes, a couple of other Bak Kut Teh stalls are along this road too), Jia Bin Klang Bak Kut Teh serves traditional Malaysian-style herbal Bak Kut Teh - both as soup and dry dishes. The eatery was opened by Malaysians who brought the popular Klang-style dish to Singapore.

The restaurant serves both small and large pots (both refillable) with various ingredients in it such as pork belly, tau pok, pig intestines and innards. The soup is boiled and simmered using 10 different herbs and spices over long hours to bring out the intensity and flavour of the soup. This results in a very strong herbal taste which some many enjoy this variation.

I ordered the soup option and while it started off with a mild herbal taste, it became too much for me to handle before I could finish my bowl. However, my family member enjoyed every bit of it because her tastebuds are suited to more herbal flavours - so really, to each its own.

What I enjoyed though, was the variety of dishes inside the soup, which just makes it more interesting and gives a range of textures and flavours to go with my rice. Another option that may suit those who don’t fancy a strong herbal taste in their Bak Kut Teh could try the Dry Bak Kut Teh, a pork ribs dish stir-fried with dark soy sauce, dried chilli and other spices.
