While Craftsmen isn’t exactly a stone’s throw away from the nearest MRT station (Fort Canning Park), it is a good place to hang out with friends, chat over good food or even get some work done there.
The interior of this café can sit about 20-30 people, nicely spaced out between tables in case it gets a little too squeezy for comfort. There are a range of food options like pasta, rice and platters, as well as coffee, tea and cakes! It is also a place where you can do work with your laptop there with a good ambiance and a quiet place to get your work done.
When it comes to drinks, coffee lovers will be happy to know that there are your usual fares like cappuccino, latte and espresso, as well as tea options and non-caffeine drinks.
I have passed by this outlet a few times in the afternoon where I have spotted working adults with their laptops opened, sipping coffee while typing away. And for the outsiders, it feels like an ideal area and lifestyle, but having dined there, it is a cozy and ideal café to work and grind while feasting on delicious food. Perhaps that’s also the reason why this café closes before the dinner crowd.
I ordered the Sambal Belacan Pasta, a cup of iced coffee and a sliced of lychee rose cake. For the pasta, I felt the spice level was enough to give that extra umph, but what made it great was the creamy texture, a sweetness of the chili and the spices in the sauce.
For the cake, I specifically chose a lighter sponge cake that was less sweet, as recommended by the staff working there. The rose -flavoured wasn’t too strong which I was worried that it would come off artificial. With the lychee bits in the cake, it gave a nice sweetness and chewy texture that blends really well with the other elements of this dessert.
