Menya Kokoro first was established over 20 years ago by a Japanese chef named Takuma Ishikawa. It was so good that it even won the Best Maze-soba Award in 2014 and has expanded to have 22 outlets worldwide in nine places like Tokyo, Jakarta, Manila, Bangkok, and Vancouver. In Singapore alone, they have had three outlets at 100am mall, Plaza Singapura, and Suntec City.
To date, they’ve been covered by multiple popular food blogs such as Daniel Food Diary, Sethlui, and The Ordinary Patrons, all who have sung high praises about their food.

I’ve heard plenty of rave reviews about Menya Kokora and being a ramen lover myself, I knew I had to try it. I got the Beef Mazesoba while my dining companion had the Aburi Chashu Ramen with black Kuro Kuro flavour garlic spice soup base.
The Beef Mazesoba featured thin slices of fatty beef atop a bed of chewy soba noodles and the whole thing was doused in a rich, viscous maze soba gravy that was savoury with a tinge of sweetness. I found the concept of dry ramen very intriguing and while I do love my soup ramen, this was a nice alternative.
I also adored the Aburi Chashu Ramen which is a standard, no-frills ramen that came with a garlicky soup and thick slices of chashu. If you love pungent flavours as I do, the garlic soup will be completely up your alley. If you don’t like garlic, fret not as there are other options like red spicy ramen and original flavour.
