Located at Bugis Junction, it is one of the few Japanese restaurants along the food alley. Kazokutei is known as one of Osaka’s well-known chain udon restaurants, with over 200 outlets in Japan. In Singapore, there is only one outlet which serves up handmade udon.

Apart from udon, there are other food options like sushi and rice, for those who prefer something else. For the udon lovers, it comes with various soup bases such as miso, curry, miso shabu, tom yum and even sukiyaki.

In terms of location, Bugis Junction is situated just right at the Bugis MRT station so it's definitely convenient for shoppers and diners alike. Service may not be the best, but the staff members do try to make it as pleasant as possible. As it is just beside the covered shoppers area, the glaring light and heat from the sun may get into your dining experience as the air condition there isn't the greatest.

I didn’t think udon would taste this good to be honest. Whenever I had a choice to choose between ramen and udon, I would usually go for the former because of its comfortability and I guess, texture as well. So I was fairly surprised at how tasty the bowl of udon here would be.

I visited the restaurant slightly after the lunch hour period, so there wasn’t much of a crowd or a queue that I had to wait for. I was seated almost immediately and waited about 10 minutes for my food to arrive, which is a good duration if you asked me.

The udon is chewy, smooth and has a slight sweetness to its taste. It goes really well with the soup, but because of how rich the soup base was, I wasn’t able to finish my meal by myself. Portion-wise, it was generous in terms of the amount of ingredients and udon servings. The lunch menus are more worth it, and it can get a little pricey for a bowl, but if you are like me, have not been exposed to much udon places, then this will be a good start to it.
