All the way from Uji, Kyoto, Japan, the TSUJIRI brand from the 155-year-old TSUJIRI Tea House offers a wide selection of green tea drinks and desserts to satisfy your matcha cravings. Green tea is known to have many health benefits as well as containing one of the best antioxidants. Perhaps a green tea soft serve ice cream isn’t the best superfood, but it definitely beats having a chocolate cake for an after-meal splurge. Make your calories count with TSUJIRI’s range of offerings.
Many people have praised this brand for its strong aroma and flavour, made using the traditional method of grinding.
The outlet at Clarke Quay has a few seats and benches looking across the Singapore River - which makes a delightful and enjoyable spot, but note that these are all outdoor areas and there are no air conditioned seatings.
I had the Warabimochi Parfait and the Houjicha Ice Blended, both perfect desserts for a hot sunny afternoon. It was tough to choose which parfait (a rich cold dessert) but decided on the chewy, jelly-like mochi covered with soybean powder as I was looking for something to complement the green tea soft serve.
What I really enjoyed about this dessert is that not only does it have a strong aroma and taste, it isn’t too sweet at all. Perhaps this is the benchmark for an ‘authentic’ green tea fare because most of the drinks and food I’d tasted had a sweetness that felt rather artificial. The Houjicha drink felt light and a tad sweeter than the dessert, but definitely one that I throughly enjoyed.
Though the options are a littler pricier than other dessert stalls, I’d say it is worth every buck (and calories).
