Rong Cheng has been dishing out soothing bowls of bak kut teh since 1976 and their outlet at Sin Ming is their very first outlet which was started by Uncle Lim, and he has another outlet at Midview City which is run by his son. They were also the first bak kut teh stall to introduce loin ribs, also known as dragon ribs, which are the 16 largest rib bones in a pig. The bak kut teh is prepared daily the traditional Teochew-style, where fresh pork ribs are simmered for hours with just water, garlic and pepper. They also offer a variety of side dishes to go with your bak kut teh such as you tiao and braised beancurd skin.

I was about to order just a simple bowl of bak kut teh by itself when one of the staff pointed out that they offer value meals. So, for just $10.50, I managed to get myself a bowl of their Signature Dragon Rib Soup that came along with a bowl of fragrant white rice and your choice of a side dish. There were six options including salted vegetables, braised pig skin and a braised egg but I decided to opt for their fried dough fritters, which is also known as you tiao. I really enjoyed the soup here which had a good balance of pepper and garlic elements which allowed the flavours of the pork ribs to shine through. The pork ribs also had a good fat to meat ratio which allowed the meat to come out tender despite being boiled for quite some time. It definitely is located in a pretty inaccessible area but the trip down is worth it!
