Krapow, which means ‘Holy Basil’ in Thai, is one of the Thai places that gained its popularity throughout the years through word-of-mouth. There are 2 outlets in Singapore – one being at Chinatown Point and the other at Far East Plaza.
With a whole range of Thai food to choose from – from popular Thai dishes like Basil Rice, to other staples like Pad Thai, Fried Rice, Tom Yum and even Curry Rice. Of course, for the Thai Tea lovers, this is the place to get your sweet Thai Milk Tea options.
In terms of restaurant size, it’s definitely not the biggest area, but a decent space that can hold about 20 tables. It does get crowded and sometimes even noisy during peak periods so head down early or be prepared to wait. The place is quite short-staffed and the front area was packed with boxes and stuff that made it look rather messy and disorganized. Other than that, it is a pleasant place to dine at.
I went to Krapow for dinner and waited about 15 minutes before getting a table. While that was okay, because of the crowd-to-patrons ratio, they staff had probably missed or forgotten my order because it took them a good 40 minutes to serve me my Tom Yum Soup with Rice. There was no apologies thereafter so suffice to say I Was disappointed and a tad frustrated at the service.
However, I’d say that the food was pretty decent and good. For the Seafood Tom Yum Soup, I chose the creamy rich red soup option. In terms of ingredients, there was plenty of fish slices, squid, prawns and mushroom. There was definitely a good level of spice because I found myself cleaning my mucus after a few spoonful of soup. It’s not much on the sour aftertaste, but I’d say the fragrance of the soup is there and rather authentic.
I’ll probably be heading there again soon enough for a quick affordable Thai food fix.
