Tuan Yuan Pork Ribs Soup has been around since 1991 and they are dedicated to selling old-school Teochew-style bak kut teh, which is the more commonly found type of bak kut teh in Singapore. The skills, techniques and recipes have been faithfully passed down from one generation to another to preserve the brand for the next generation.

The name Tuan Yuan unites the words ‘reunion’ and ‘fate’, which is what the brand strives to do, whether it be with family, friends, colleagues and business partners. And they don’t just sell bak kut teh — they also have a range of other delicious dishes like braised pork belly buns, Teochew Fried Oyster Omelette and even braised pork rice.

Signature

Fried Preserved Radish Omelette, Steamed Grey Mullet Topped w Salted Vegetable, Steamed Squid in Teochew Style Style, Tuan Yuan Crispy Meat Roll (4pcs)

I’ve frequented Tuan Yuan Pork Ribs Soup a few times as I live nearby and the food here has been pleasing to my palate. This time around, I ordered a serving of their classic Tuan Yuan Pork Ribs Soup. Peppery, savoury and refreshing, the concentrated soup was on point and you can taste the lovely blend of pepper, pork and garlic. The ribs were decent and not too tough to chew on, which is what I look out for in a decent bowl of bak kut teh.

I also ordered myself a bowl of their Tuan Yuan Braised Pork Rice which reminded me very much of what you can get in Taiwan! Very unexpected, especially since this wasn’t a Taiwanese restaurant. Additionally, I realized that they sell bak kut teh soup xiao long bao (steamed soup dumplings) and I was surprised to find that these tasted really good! I hope they make it a permanent menu item.
