Previously known as Jia Xiang Nasi Lemak, Simple Nasi Lemak is owned and run by a young couple called Stephy and Shawn.
Their shop is located at CT Hub 2 in Bendemeer, making it convenient for those who work in the area. However, those who are unfamiliar with the place may take some time to find their stall — it's worth it though!
What they are known for is their pretty pea blue rice, which definitely stands out in photos and is very Instagram-worthy! If you aren't feeling rice, fret not as there are other carb options like sweet potato and pumpkins.
Protein-wise, there are a number of delicious options to choose from such as rendang chicken, har cheong gai, eel and grilled chicken. Each nasi lemak also comes with a generous side of achar (preserved vegetables) and an egg.
As the shop itself is rather small, diners have to eat outside on fold out table and chairs.
Signature
A1. Rendang Chicken, A2. Har Cheong Fried Chicken Chop, B1. Rendang Chicken, C1. Rendang Chicken
I first tried their food when they opened back in 2019 and I can safely say that the quality of their food has remained consistently good throughout the years. I previously tried their rendang which was melt-in-your-mouth tender so this time around, I wanted to see how their har cheong gai and eel matched up.
The har cheong gai was shockingly good — extremely crispy, which the chicken meat remained tender, succulent and juicy. I have no idea how they achieved it but it was extremely addictive.
The eel was also delectable. Very soft and very meaty, it was also covered in a sweet sauce that paired well with the rice.
My only gripe is that they only open during lunch hours on weekdays which makes it hard to visit them. But it is definitely worth the trip down!
