Tsui Wah is one of the most famous brands from Hong Kong and the chain of tea restaurants specialises in authentic Hong Kong fare.
The establishment was opened by Mr Choi Cheung Po in 1967 in Mongkok. When he retired in 1989, the company had already grown to have seven branches across Hong Kong, with its most notable one in San Po Kong, Kowloon.
Fun fact: The restaurant was originally intended for the use of construction workers so food was cheap and served efficiently. However, as the business became more popular and expanded, their target audience switched to middle-class customers, tourists and white-collar workers.
They have outlets across Asia in Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and Singapore. The very first outlet opened outside of Hong Kong was in Shanghai in 2009, followed by outlets in Macau and Wuhan.
My husband is from Hong Kong so I love trying Hong Kong restaurants in Singapore and using his tastebuds to gauge if the food is authentic!
Tsui Wah has been on our lists of foods to try so we were excited to dine here.
We reached the restaurant around 830pm on a weekday night and were relieved to see that the restaurant was still open.
Unfortunately, their famous egg tarts were sold out but everything else was there. We got the Kagoshima – Style Braised Pork Cartilage & Wontons in Fish Soup with Mixian, Baked Fried Rice with Pork Chop in Tomato Puree, and their rendition of french toast (these came in cubes!).
The noodles were fantastic — I am salivating as I type this! The soup was packed with flavour and the noodles were still springy even after being soaked in the soup for so long. Ribs were also delicious and the dumplings had massive prawns in them.
The baked rice is also something that I would crave. Extremely creamy and sinful!
