The store was started by a man called Lau Ah Tee, and when he was just 17 years old, he helped out at Ng Mui Song’s stall, who is also known as the father of the famous Ng Ah Sio, who opened Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh. He went on to be a canteen operator before starting his own bak kut teh business in Boon Keng. With his wealth of experience and knowledge of the trade, he has since become one of the most popular bak kut teh stalls in Singapore and is known for his authentic and peppery bowls of Teochew-style bak kut teh.

The bak kut teh here is made with Indonesian pork and is actually cooked in just water, Sarawak peppercorns and garlic over fire. Despite using only simple ingredients, the result is a full-bodied, peppery soup. The soup was not too overwhelmingly peppery and was very robust. Like many bak kut teh places in Singapore, they also offered free refills, so I had plenty of soup to dunk my you tiao and drench my rice in. They were generous with the amount of pork, which was sizable, fleshy and had a good bite to it. You can also choose to dip it in the provided dark sauce for an extra depth of flavour.
