MAXWELL FOOD CENTRE
Maxwell Road Food Centre began as wet market in 1929 handling mainly fresh goods. Though it was meant to materialise more than a decade earlier, construction on the market began only in 1927. The first step towards developing it as a food centre began in 1986, when 70 street food hawkers who had been running business under a zinc-and-roof structure alongside the back alleys of China Square were relocated to Maxwell Road Market. In year 1987, Maxwell Road Market was officially certified a food centre. To this day, it has become a well-liked place for traditional Chinese foods.
