Pastries
Singapore has its own unique take to the buttery, flaky goodness - commonly in the form of curry puffs and other sweet treats like tau sar piah! Pastries in Singapore make the perfect snack. Popular versions of the curry puff originate from Malaysian and Indian origins and are small pies that are commonly filled with curry chicken with diced potatoes, sardines, or black pepper chicken in a deep-fried or baked pastry shell. There are also delectable “dessert” puffs that are filled with yam or creamy sweet custard. Another pastry would be the tau sar piah, which are dense flaky pastry biscuits that are filled with sweet filling made from grounded mung beans.

Soon Soon Huat Crispy Curry Puff

TODO

We believe that if you make food from your heart, it transforms into something totally different. As we are passionate in creating quality curry puffs to be served to our customers, we prepare all the ingredients fresh from scratch every day, using fine flours to make the dough, rolling it and then stuffing each puff’s homemade fillings by hand. Our family recipe of Curry Chicken Puff and Sardine Puff has been passed down from the 1st generation since the stall’s opening in 1992, by who is now the grandmother of the current 3rd generation stall owners. To keep up to date, we have added different flavours such as the Custard Puff, Otah Puff and Durian Puff, with the Durian Puff available as a specialty on the weekend. We make around 300-400 curry puffs daily and these bite-sized snacks are usually sold out by the end of the day.

Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah

TODO

Here at Loong Fatt's Sweet and Salty Tau Sar Piah, we strongly believe in maintaining the tradition of making high-quality handmade treats for our customers to enjoy.
Started in 1948 as a traditional Hainanese coffee shop, we quickly evolved our business and our food, revolving around our baked goods. Today, this shop has been around for close to 80 years, where it has been passed down to our current second-generation owner. We have also been featured on multiple shows and websites.
Having had years of experience and thoughtful experimentations with both processes and ingredients, our dutiful chefs are highly determined in maintaining the traditional processes of making our famous Tau Sar Piah, which come in both sweet and salty flavours. Consistently choosing quality over convenience, we mix ingredients, bake and sell all our treats on a same-day basis, ensuring both quality and cleanliness through regular checks. We actively maintain our pride in the special flavours and textures, therefore our Tau Sar Piah differs in its handmade qualities. The traditional pastry takes on a flaky, buttery texture filled with bean paste, something unique to this shop's treats. This has resulted in high demand for our shop's old-school pastries, with the shop making up to 3000 Tau Sar Piahs a day!
Our determination in preserving the standards of traditional pastry-making despite the difficulties of making pastries by hand brings us great joy when we see customers enjoying our treats, and we wish to bring others joy in our pastries to be recognised in preserving not just our shop's but Singapore's identity as a whole. So come down when you're free, and while there might be a bit of a queue, you'll find our treats worth the wait!
